Tesco: One-third of food is lost or wasted

It is good to see Tesco tackle head-on the issue of food waste. Visiting its website I was greeted by the headline, ‘Around a third of the world’s food is lost or wasted’.

You can’t be more direct than that. Credit to the company for raising this issue so directly.

If there was ever an issue on which we in Britain need to learn, it’s about the issue of our food: where it comes from, how we use it (or not use it), and what we do with “the leftovers”. The food industry – and we as consumers – have major impacts on lives across the globe. And it’s rarely simple – there can be good and bad consequences to our food patterns. The more we are informed and engaged, the better decisions we can take – about what we do as individuals and families, and about what we would like our major food companies to do.

If you missed it, have a look at this infopic which Tesco produced. Lots of food for thought.
