Motivating the core: a values-led approach to owning a common future

Rob Bowden is co-founder and co-director of Lifeworlds Learning, a social enterprise based in the Staffordshire Moorlands. He has previously enjoyed an academic career in geography and development studies where he specialized in participatory methodologies and the exploration of children’s ‘lifeworlds’. Rob is also an acclaimed author and photographer of over 50 children’s books on global and environmental issues.

In Lifeworlds Learning, Rob coordinates a team of practitioners specializing in critical learning and strategic creativity. They work across all phases of education and have supported organizational learning and transformation whether in village schools or international NGOs. As a social enterprise, Lifeworlds coordinates a number of learning communities in England and works in close collaboration with others to achieve common goals.

This paper reflects on a recent collaborative project working alongside Think Global, Oxfam, British Red Cross and Practical Action to explore the potential of ‘Leading Through Values’ for school-based transformation.
