Think Global's history
Think Global is the working name for the Development Education Association which is a registered charity.
We adopted the identity ‘Think Global' in January 2011 and we were previously known as DEA.
DEA had grown out of the National Association for Development Education Centres (NADEC) which had been set up to represent the interests of DECs. DEA was formed in 1993 by a coalition of the major development NGOs including Oxfam, ActionAid, Save the Children, Christian Aid and CAFOD, as well as Development Education Centres (DECs).
DEA originally focused on promoting 'development education' - an understanding of development issues and our connections to them. Over time DEA has broadened its remit to consider how education can lead to a better understanding of the wider world we all live in, including economic globalisation, development, environmental issues and human rights. We now use the term 'global learning' to refer to this.
