The Department for International Development (DFID) has played a major role in transforming the climate of support for development education in the UK over the past four years. It has considerably increased the funding for development, produced a policy statement on ‘Building Support for Development’, and worked in partnership with NGOs and others to ensure development education is part of mainstream education practice. Here Richard Calvert, Head of Information at DFID, outlines some key challenges for the next five years.
