DEED is a development education centre serving the county of Dorset. It has an extensive resource centre comprising books, country based and themed collections, world music collections, home corner boxes and a Ghanaian crafts exhibition entitled Sankofa. DEED works with teaching staff, children, Early Years providers and community groups to promote global citizenship and race equality. Current projects include ‘Rights Respecting Global Citizens’, embedding global dimension through a training course for schools on the Rights Respecting Journey; ‘It’s My World Too!’, supporting Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants to embed development awareness; ‘Future Stars’, working with schools to provide better educational resources for Black and Ethnic pupils and families; and running events, conferences and training for teachers on Sustainability, Community Cohesion, Fairtrade Schools, Global School Partnerships and Multicultural Britain. Also have exhibition and book on ‘Dorset’s Hidden Histories’ available for use in school and community venues.
