New toolkit for INGOs: UK Public Attitudes to Development: Building New Responses

Thursday July 16 2015

Think Global and Bond have been working on a project together called ‘UK Public Attitudes to Development: Building New Responses’ This has been funded by DEEEP4.

UK Public support for development is declining, and this course was aimed to give INGO workers a chance to reflect upon their practice, and respond to the shifting environment. How do we frame development within our organisation, and how do we communicate this with the public?

On Monday 29th June, Bond and Think Global delivered a one day seminar to 30 participants from a variety of

INGOs across the UK. The course was very positively received, and we hope that this is the start of something fresh in the sector.

As part of the course we launched the new ‘Building New Responses’ toolkit. The activities have been designed by participants who attended a course earlier this year. This toolkit is a starting point for INGOs to continue these discussions back in their organisations.

Comments from the participants about the one day seminar included:

‘What I found most useful was applying the toolkit to a piece of communication as it allowed me to see how this work and research can be applied in a practical sense’

‘This has been a great day! I am taking away a lot to think about and I’m looking forward to sharing it and utilising it in my organisation’

‘Really interesting. It’s made me more aware that this an area that it is still a work in progress, and needs commitment from the sector to define it and implement it’
